"Great news from a techology standpoint: We are really
focused on the future. The infrastructure in our new library will be comparable
to what you'll find in many colleges, and the specifications for our server
room are as good as those found in any modern company."
ROBERT DERBY,
SYSTEMS MANAGER
NEW LIBRARY/ACADEMIC CENTER
A city skyline, a school campus, even the human face, has a distinguishing feature — an outstanding
landmark, an icon that announces to all the world, “This is who we are.”
The new Library/Academic
Center will be that distinguishing feature for Country Day. It will
tell all who step on our campus who we are: a forward-thinking community dedicated to excellence
and supported by a culture of learning.
Our current library, Fayman Library, opened nearly four decades ago when enrollment was less
than half of what it is today. In every regard, the school has outgrown the building. Further,
the library of the ‘60’s is about as useful today as are the typewriters and mimeograph
machines it used to house. The 21st Century library is the focal point of community interaction
and the hub of multi-media information.
The new Library/Academic Center will be at the center of campus, the beating heart of our vibrant
community. Capitalizing on the great benefit of being a one-campus school, this core structure
will bring together students from Nursery through Grade 12, their teachers, parents and alumni,
friends and visitors.
The 36,000 square foot building will have three floors. Its contemporary design will reflect
the standards of the school while remaining true to the surrounding environment. Inside, distinct
areas for learning will meet the unique needs of students of all ages. Technological resources
will be abundant and forward-looking. Power, wiring, and wireless specifications are designed
to handle the demands of emerging technologies.
Visitors will enter through a courtyard reflective of our temperate climate. One the first
floor they will find an art gallery, Admissions Suite, Lower School Library and 35-person Multi-Media
Lecture Hall. An adjacent multi-purpose room will offer “flex” space — whether
auditorium seating for 150, performance, testing, or meeting space. The second
floor will house
the Middle and Upper School Library that will include seminar rooms for small group work, and
the Learning Resource Center for mentoring and tutoring. The third
floor will have staff offices
and the board conference room.
